It’s with great pride that we can say that 2017 marks ImageFIRST’s 50th anniversary of service! 50 years—that’s a long time, and looking back it’s amazing to think about how much we've grown and changed since 1967!
As a leading medical scrub and uniform supplier to San Francisco, CA-area healthcare facilities, we’re proud to be ImageFIRST. With that said, we want to share a bit about our company’s history.
The ImageFIRST Story
It all started in 1967 with two brothers in Philadelphia opening a small dry cleaning shop. It wouldn’t be until the 1990s that ImageFIRST would rise out of this little shop, but the history in between is rich to say the least.
As the dry cleaning shop became successful, they opened up another small store. At the same time, the American industry was gravitating toward putting their workforces in coordinating uniforms—nurses’ uniforms, airline worker uniforms and so on – were becoming the standard, and the small business capitalized on that opportunity.
Their new business model began, and the company started selling companies’ uniforms for employees – collecting, cleaning, and delivering them for a fee each week.
After a while, business grew, and processing all that dry cleaning at two small locations became infeasible, so they built two plants; one in Wilmington, Delaware, and the other in Lancaster, Pennsylvania—where our corporate headquarters is still located today.
Business continued to grow through the years, and in the mid-1980s, manufacturing in America was making its way overseas, taking much business outside of the country. At the same time, something else was unraveling in those days: The AIDS scare.
The healthcare industry became concerned about catching and spreading AIDS, thus beginning the standard of laundering scrubs, gowns, and other medical linen in professional facilities that could handle infection prevention. Because of that, the business grew rapidly within the health industry. Soon thereafter, outpatient surgery centers began popping up throughout the U.S. in huge numbers—a subset of the healthcare industry that we work most closely with to this day. nd the rest is history!
Today we launder and provide high quality scrubs and uniforms in San Francisco, CA and nationwide. We’re excited to see what the next 50 years brings, and we thank you for your loyalty!
